CID goes to Isla Arena, Palawan

Four days of Sun, Surf, Sand and everything in between

Palawan’s Isla Arena, a private island known as a “pugad ng pawikan” or a sea turtle sanctuary, became the personal playground of Corporate Image Dimensions, Inc. (CID) as it hosted the company’s corporate planning session cum rest and recreation activities for this year.

CID staff, led by its Chairman Luis J. Morales and Managing Director Larry M. Zurita, turned the two-and-a-half hectare island into a conference venue by day and a party place during the night.

“Isla Arena, in the town of Narra, is the perfect venue for those who want to have a one-of-a kind nature trip,” said Morales. “Plus it has modern-day facilities that will enable you to still connect with the outside world.”

Dedicated to the conservation of the pawikan or the Philippines’ native turtle, the island ensures sustainable ecotourism practices that promote a different ‘barefoot sophistication’ that CIDers are only too glad to experience.See Full Story and Photos

PCCI widens internat’l reach

The Philippine Canine Club, Inc. (PCCI) has recently secured the approval of the equally prestigious UK-based The Kennel Club for a reciprocal agreement, making PCCI the only dog registering body in the Philippines recognized by the largest organization dedicated to the health and welfare of dogs in the European nation.

PCCI’s reciprocal agreement with The Kennel Club of UK means that the latter will no longer recognize any other dog club in the country except for PCCI and all PCCI registered dogs are eligible to participate in any dog competition sponsored or held by the Kennel Club of UK.

Said Augusto Benedicto Santos III, “It is our great honor and privilege to become The UK Kennel Club’s exclusive affiliate organization in the Philippines. Just like The Kennel Club team, we at PCCI work hard towards 'making a difference for dogs.’”

Since 1963 when PCCI first set out to follow the American Kennel Club’s dog registration system, the local dog registry has been successfully promoting best practices in breeding, and keeping track of purebred dogs in the country.

PCCI is recognized by all international organizations in the US, Europe and Asia. It is also the only organization in the country that has reciprocal agreements with Belgium based Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI), the Asia Kennel Union (AKU) of Japan, the American Kennel Club (AKC) and the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC).

DOT lends more teeth to tourism data analysis

Tourism Secretary Ace Durano
The Department of Tourism (DOT) further reinforced its technical assessment of tourism traffic in the country to capture the aggregate and accurate state of tourism and its contribution to the economy.

“We have expanded our assessment to include a more systematic and in-depth analysis of top destinations to provide a clearer insight on the tourism movements throughout the country. Understanding these movements allows us to create strategies to further support the development of these destinations. This system also creates awareness for these places at the national level,” said Tourism Secretary Ace Durano.

Since its adoption in 2008, the new system has propelled several previously unknown local sites to the main tourism circuit, such as Camsur, which enjoyed a 117.25% growth in foreign and domestic arrivals in 2009.

The tourism chief added that the enhanced system also aims to empower local government units (LGU) to gather information and generate ideas for tourism development in their area.

Since 2006, the DOT has maintained a partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for a statistical-capacity building program in the local government level.

“More details on travelers will certainly help us create new and relevant products for our regular and niche markets. We are moving towards a fresh, revitalized approach,” said Undersecretary Eduardo Jarque, Jr.

FedEx Plants Seeds of Hope for Child Patients

A FedEx volunteer and a child beneficiary of Kythe, Inc. plant trees at La Mesa Ecopark
Employee volunteers of FedEx Express (FedEx), in cooperation with Kythe, Inc. (Kythe), a nonprofit organization with a mission to improve the quality of lives of pediatric patients, took twenty children on a tour of the La Mesa Eco Park in Quezon City and engaged them in a day of learning and fun.

The FedEx volunteers gave the kids a lecture on environmental awareness while guiding them on a walk through the forest. The volunteers and children also planted fifty trees adopted by FedEx at the La Mesa Watershed.

Cynthia Manzanares, Kythe, Inc. Child Life Projects Officer, said, “Kythe always welcomes activities like the FedEx eco tour, which help promote optimum growth and development among our child patients. The active participation of FedEx volunteers goes a long way to support the Kythe mission of helping children heal through simple sharing and togetherness.”

FedEx seed note card
As keepsake after the activity, each child was given a FedEx seed note card which can be potted to bloom into a green plant. Said Rhicke Jennings, managing director, FedEx Express Australasia, “With this gift, we wish to impart the message of hope to the children. As they take care of the plant and see it grow each day, may they be filled with hope and strength as they overcome a delicate journey,” said Jennings.
